Wim Hof App Redesign: Cold Shower Challenge Experience

Role: UX/UI Designer

Project Overview: 

 

We redesigned the Wim Hof Method App to help new users complete the Cold Shower Challenge with ease and encourage them to upgrade to a paid subscription. The original app presented too many choices without clear guidance, creating friction in onboarding and a drop in conversion.

1. User Research

We conducted usability audits, heuristics evaluations, and competitor benchmarking (e.g., Headspace, Calm) to identify key insights:

​

  • Users need fewer options at launch and clearer action steps

  • Aesthetic appeal creates tolerance for minor usability issues

  • Gamification improves retention (inspired by Headspace)

2. Problem Definition

​

Target Audience: First-time users
Primary Task: Complete the cold shower challenge and experience enough value to consider upgrading

  • Onboarding and starting a challenge

  • Completing daily shower challenges

  • Receiving rewards and unlocking achievements

  • Viewing premium feature previews

  • Upgrading subscription
